Sports Turf Construction
Hancey's Turf are experts when it comes to sports turf construction. Their service includes: site clearing, earthworks, drainage, supplying the correct soils, laser levelling, irrigation, stolonizing, solid turfing and maintenance. Sports turf construction is ideal for a number of sporting fields including football fields, soccor fields, polo fields, golf courses, cricket fields as well as council parks.
Aeration / Verti-draining
For optimum results and healthy, lush turf, your soil may need to be aerated. Aeration is essential on sporting surfaces and golf courses where the soil is squashed, preventing water from draining through the soil. Grass roots find it impossible to penetrate downwards, causing the grass to be surface hugging. The most effective approach for solving aeration challenges is verti-draining or compact relief. Verti-draining is a process where the soil is shattered and multiple fissures are created in the soil profile, thus allowing air into the soil. Turf Planting / Stolonizing
Stolonizing (also referred to as sprigging) is a method of planting stolons or runners and rhizomes into the soil surface. Stolonizing is recommended for large areas where irrigation is readily available, such as golf courses, polo fields and parklands. Stolonizing is an economical option over solid turfing if time is available. Depending on the turf variety and time of year at planting, full coverage is expected in 10–16 weeks.
Washed Turf
Washed turf is ideal for cricket wickets, golf courses and sporting fields. Washed turf has quicker root establishment than standard turf due to the increased root biomass. Put simply, the greater number of roots able to have direct contact with the soil on site, the better the root growth. Standard conventional turf takes time to establish because of the stress of harvesting, transportation and installation.Washed turf establishes roots immediately after installation, usually in about 2–3 days. The roots penetrate quickly and deeply into the soil profile, resulting in a healthier, more wear tolerant turf. The advantages of using washed turf include: • Quicker root establishment and lateral growth • Increased root biomass • Increased percolation and downward movement of water • Less shipping weight and transportation costs • The potential for soil born pathogens, insects and weed seed is reduced • No soil laying.
Maxi-Rolls
Maxi-Rolls are very economical and efficient for large areas over 5000 square metres including sporting fields, golf courses, schools, estates, parks and acerage homes. Using a maxi-roll as opposed to a conventional roll has a number of advantages: • Less joins limit the drying and shrinking off the turf which occasionally occurs with smaller rolls during the growth stage• A newly installed area can be mown and maintenance equipment can be used on the area sooner • Maxi-Rolls roll out on their own weight therefore mechanical rolling is conditional after installation • Maxi-Rolls can be installed on softer grounds due to the type of installation equipment used • The finished job looks clean and professional without any checkerboard effect • An experienced crew of 3 can install 5000 square metres in one day • Faster installation means being able to supply water quickly to the area, causing less stress to the turf • Once properly placed Maxi-Roll turf stays in place due to the size of the roll. Please call our freecall number 1800 761 334 for more information about sporting surfaces.Hancey's Turf are suppliers of Premium Turf Varieties including Palmetto.
