Keeping the neighborhood canines and other four legged friends out of the yard and garden areas can be very challenging work. For a natural and pesticide free solution, try using some common kitchen items like ammonia, vinegar and black pepper.
Spraying a vinegar or ammonia parameter around your property line will leave an invisible and unfavorable odor that serves well to deter dogs and animals from making their pit stop in your lawn and garden areas. Vinegar and ammonia is also used as a weed killer so be very careful not to spray your lawn or plants directly. Spraying along driveway and sidewalk edges works very well. The only downside to this method is that time and rain can dissipate the odor so you will need to reapply to the perimeter often.
Orange, grapefruit and lemon peels are other natural items that dogs dislike the smell of. Hiding these peels around the yard or as a perimeter yields good results. The downside is that these don’t always fit into front yard landscaping themes; so many people limit their use to the backyard where they will be out of public site.
You might try planting a few short yellow and orange flower beds around the front and side property lines, cutting the citrus peels into very small pieces and placing the peels upside down. This can make it easier to disguise the peels, as they can be blended pretty well with flowers close to the same colors.
