1.) First thing to make sure you know is not to cut your grass to short. Most people think that mowing the grass is the easiest part of maintaining a lawn. That is not the case. Depending on the time of year, type of turf and climate you live in will drastically alter how often you cut your grass and how short you cut it as well. Most turf types for home lawns should not be cut lower than 25 mm, when Winter comes and in shady areas you can raise your mowing height.

2.) The type of lawn mower is irrelevant. It is all about the blades. The sharper the blades the better and quicker the whole mowing process will be. Be sure to have a sharp blades every time you mow because a dull blade will tear your grass causing it to look uneven. Most professionals recommend sharpening your blade after every 8 hours of use.

3.) Don’t over water your lawn. It’s all about the water level you apply. Over watering your lawn will cause more damage than under watering it. The majority turfs can handle a significant dry spell. It is best to water deep and infrequently than a little often. Irregular deep waterings will let the water go deep into the rootzone and the roots will chase the moisture.

4.) Don’t over feed your lawn or under feed your lawn. A balanced diet is the best way to go. Most experts will say that fertilizing your lawn 4 times a year is the appropriate amount in most locations. Spring, Summer, Fall and after the Winter. Again depending on the type of turf you have may affect your fertilizing schedule.
