Velvetene is a variety of seashore paspalum which exhibits significant salt tolerance and grows in a wide variety of soil types and PH levels.
Velvetene has a similar texture and density to that of the finer couches. The leaf has a wax coating giving the appearance of a glistening bright green and shiny luster with a velvet soft touch.
Velvetene is not as invasive as many couches but is a tough, hardy plant with excellent re-cooperative rates from wear and scalping and has good winter colour retention. Aesthetic mowing stripes are a feature of Velvetene and with intensive grooming, the surface of Velvetene will become very fine and dense, similar to a putting green.
